80 House members: Shutdown better than 'Obamacare'?
WASHINGTON (AP) -- More than a third of House Republicans urged their leader Thursday to trigger a government shutdown rather than fund the implementation of the health care overhaul they call "Obamacare."
A letter from 80 Republicans asked Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, to resist any spending bills that would accommodate the new health care law, which is nearing a critical stage of signing up millions of Americans for health coverage.
Because it's virtually certain that President Barack Obama and the Democratic-controlled Senate would reject such demands, leaders of both parties say the standoff likely would result in a partial shutdown of the federal government, similar to those that occurred in 1995 and 1996.
The letter is mixed news for Boehner and other GOP leaders who view a government shutdown as politically unwise.
With 80 of the House's 233 Republicans signing the letter, a solid majority of 153 has refrained from trying to limit Boehner's options. That presumably would allow the speaker to push a bipartisan bill that funds the health law and is supported by a "majority of the majority" of his fellow Republicans, which Boehner says is essential.
However, he would need more than 60 Democratic votes to pass such a bill. That would give Democrats a major voice in its details.
The federal 2013 fiscal year ends Sept. 30. New money must be appropriated by then to avoid a shutdown of countless government offices and agencies.Voters chiefly blamed congressional Republicans for the mid-1990s shutdowns, and the fallout boosted Democratic President Bill Clinton. Ever since, many establishment Republicans have urged the party to avoid using shutdown threats as a bargaining tool.
But a new generation of tea party-backed conservatives rejects the advice. They say "Obamacare" — officially the Affordable Care Act — is so unpopular and unworkable that it justifies extraordinary tactics to block it.
A possible solution to the budget impasse, often used in past years, would involve a "continuing resolution" to keep funding the government at current levels. Many top Republicans, including Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, say it's impossible to carve out money for "Obamacare" in any appropriations measure.The House letter was authored by Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C. It urges Boehner "to affirmatively de-fund the implementation and enforcement of Obamacare in any relevant appropriations bill," including "any continuing appropriations bill."
At least a dozen Senate Republicans have signed a similar letter.
In recent years, Democrats and Republicans in Congress repeatedly have failed to reach major compromises on spending. A string of secret negotiations with the White House, a bipartisan "super committee" and various threats of economic calamity have all proved fruitless.
The impasses led this year to automatic, across-the-board spending cuts known as sequestration, which have hampered some federal agencies and helped shrink the deficit.
Some House Republicans want deeper cuts still. But others revolted this summer when popular programs were targeted.Senate Democrats want to replace the sequester cuts with a more generous spending plan, but House Republicans vow to block it.

Rand Paul: Obama 'Flouting the Law' by Continuing Aid to Egypt

President Barack Obama is "directly flouting the law" by not immediately cutting off financial aid to Egypt following the ouster of President Mohammed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky says.
Paul pointed to the federal law that says the United States will not give money to countries operating under a coup — a designation the Obama administration has not given.
"There never should have been any debate. The law's explicit. If you have a military coup or a military takeover, the aid has to end unless you want a president who disobeys the law," Paul told "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.
"This president is directly flouting the law and he's in direct disobeyance of the law. So, no, there's no question. The aid has to end."

Paul, who is considering a run for president in 2016, said following the law of the land is not up for debate.
"You can debate whether aid's a good idea and it's a bad idea, but the law you don't get to debate. You have to change the law if you don't like the law," he said.
"All of these Republicans who stand up and beat their chest and say, 'Oh, we're the party that's the rule of law and we criticize the Muslim Brotherhood for not obeying the rule of law.'
"Well, it's a valid criticism only if you obey the rule of law. … Our law says when an elected government is toppled, there's no wiggle room. You have to end the aid."
Rand likened the coup debate to a fight among youngsters.
"It's more like third-grade playground. … People say, 'Well, yeah, it's a coup, but you can't make me say it's a coup.' So it's a bunch of third-graders on the playground saying you can't make me," he said

Sen. Coburn: Obama 'Perilously Close' to Impeachment Thursday, 22 Aug 2013
President Obama is moving "perilously close" to impeachment, Sen. Tom Coburn told a town hall crowd this week, two reports said Thursday.
The Oklahoma Republican noted he was "a personal friend" of the president during the Muskogee town hall event, but said the administration suffers from incompetence.
Coburn repeatedly called the president's administration "lawless," telling the crowd of 300 at the Muskogee Convention Center there should be a national constitutional convention to counter it – and to cut down an oversized federal government, the Tulsa World reported.
"I used to have a great fear of constitutional conventions," he said. "I have a great fear now of not having one."
On the issue of the president’s accountability, Roll Call reported Coburn told the crowd, "What you have to do is you have to establish the criteria that would qualify for proceedings against the president, and that’s called impeachment."
"That’s not something you take lightly, and you have to use a historical precedent of what that means," he said. "I think there’s some intended violation of the law in this administration, but I also think there’s a ton of incompetence, of people who are making decisions.
"I believe [an impeachment charge] needs to be evaluated and determined, but thank goodness it doesn’t have to happen in the Senate until they’ve brought charges in the House," Coburn said. "Those are serious things, but we’re in a serious time. I don’t have the legal background to know if that rises to high crimes and misdemeanor, but I think they’re getting perilously close."
To back his claim of administrative incompetence, Coburn cited the example of Obama’s 15 picks for top Homeland Security vacancies, saying "a general portion of the nominees are absolutely incompetent," Roll Call reported.
Coburn has been a leading voice against trying to shut down the government over funding Obamacare, and said the proposal championed by conservative special interest groups such as Freedomworks and the Heritage Foundation would be "childish" and "intellectually dishonest,” the newspaper reported.
" . . . I quite frankly think he’s in a difficult position he’s put himself in and if it continues, I think we’re going to have another constitutional crisis in terms of the presidency," Coburn said.

Meet Ayo Kimathi, a.k.a. “the Irritated Genie,” who told his bosses at the DHS that his anti-white, anti-gay site, “War is on the Horizon,” was just an entertainment site that sells concert and lecture videos.
You see, DHS employees, even those with office jobs like Kimathi’s, have to get outside activities approved by their supervisors, according to the SPLC. Kimathi’s former supervisor told the watchdog group, which tracks hate speech and groups in the U.S., that despite her former employee’s banal description of his extracurricular activities, the actual content of the site left her “stunned.” She continued: “To see the hate, to know that he is a federal employee, it bothered me.” She added that had Kimathi’s site been accurately described to the agency, there’s no way the DHS would have signed off on it. Possibly to keep his bosses from looking up his work, Kimathi used only the site’s acronym, WOH, in his permission request. In addition to his involvement in the purchase of ICE supplies, Kimathi also had a public profile for the agency, speaking at vendor events. McCain: US Should Intervene in Syria Without 'Boots on the Ground'

United States should intervene militarily in Syria, given evidence that the government attacked its people with chemical weapons Wednesday, Sen. John McCain said Thursday.
And, in an interview with CNN, he criticized President Barack Obama for not reacting strongly enough.
The United States doesn't have to take risks in Syria, McCain said. "There would be no boots on the ground. We would use standoff weapons just as the Israelis have four times as they’ve taken out targets inside Syria," he said. "We would not put a single life at risk."
The U.S. could neutralize Syrian runways and battle planes in a "matter of a couple of days," McCain said. "We can supply the right kind of weapons to rebels and to establish a no-fly zone by moving patriot missiles up to the border. This can be done very easily," he said.
"When does the United States, with very little cost stand up for these people and stop this horrific — you can’t look at the pictures without being deeply moved. Are we just going to let that go on?"
Shocking pictures emerged from Damascus suburbs on Wednesday of dozens of people said to have been killed by poison gas attacks.
McCain criticized Obama for taking no action to back up his year-old threat that the use of chemical weapons by President Bashir al-Assad's regime would be seen as a red line that would spur action. Instead, he said Assad "now sees that as a green light."
"The word of the president of the United States can no longer be taken seriously — as it isn’t throughout the entire region," McCain said.

Rep. Ros-Lehtinen: Administration's Handling of Benghazi 'Unconscionable'

The Obama administration's callous handling of the 2012 attack on the embassy in Benghazi has been "unconscionable," Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen tells Newsmax TV in an exclusive interview.

"It is unconscionable for this whole administration to have called that . . . a phony scandal," the congresswoman said. "There's nothing phony about the deaths of four innocent American lives."

She said former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton merely "reshuffled the deck of chairs on the Titanic" with her demotion of four State employees in the wake of the tragedy.

"And now they're back," she said. "It is unbelievable. No one has paid a price at all for the terrorist attacks in Benghazi resulting in the deaths of four American citizens, including our ambassador."

Ros-Lehtinen said she wholeheartedly supports the appointment of a select committee to investigate the Sept. 11, 2012 attack — and charged the administration's "intimidation" has kept Congress from learning the truth.

"We have seen that they've kept witnesses away from us," she said. "There's a feeling of intimidation in the State Department and throughout the agencies. 'Don't come forward, don't come testify, you will suffer, your career will suffer.'"

She charges it was the administration's "false narrative," that fostered the fear.

"They want to convince the people . . . that these radical Islamic terrorists are not out to destroy Israel and the United States," she said. "That was a political agenda and it was a political response to a real security threat and that's why this level of intimidation continues throughout this administration."

The administration generally has no coherent anti-terrorism policy, she added.

"The Obama administration believes that having a drone policy is a solution," she said.

"That is not a military readiness capability and in 10 years, in 15 years down the road we're going to be paying the price for not being . . . military ready in the way that we should be.

She also decried the Obama administration's previous support of Egypt President Mohammed Morsi and said the U.S. should cut off aid and "stop pouring money down a rat hole."

"This administration has tried to sell the American public on this philosophy that the Muslim Brotherhood, they're made up of all kinds of people and individuals and there's just not one guiding philosophy," she said. " Oh there is a guiding philosophy and it's anti-US, it's anti-democracy, it's anti-Christian, and it's anti-female, and it's anti-everybody who doesn’t agree with their dogma.

"So we should cut off the spigot. It's time to stop the money drain that we're just wasting our money giving it to governments that don't support democracy."

Ros-Lehtinen, chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs subcommittee on North Africa and Middle East, said as far as diplomacy goes, Kerry is clueless.

"His Department of State is concentrating on a peace treaty between Israelis and Palestinians at the expense of everything else," she said. "The Israeli-Palestinian peace issue is an important issue but not when the whole Middle East and North Africa is blowing up.

On the contentious issue of immigration, Ros-Lehtinen said she's "cautiously optimistic" for passage of a reform bill.

"If we do nothing, what we're accepting is the status quo and the status quo is that we have over 11million people here who already are illegally here and that is a form of amnesty," she said, adding that securing the nation's borders are a "number one" priority.

But she said the nation must also respond to the "dreamers" who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children by creating a bill that would allow them to become citizens, serve in the military, and go to universities.

The congresswoman insisted Republicans are increasingly in support of immigration reform.

"We've seen the changing demographics of the United States and we see that the Republican Party can really be the home for this Hispanic community because we're a family-centered community, we're a faith-centered community, we believe in small businesses, we believe in limited government, and these are the kind of issues and values that the Hispanic community believes in and those are the values of the Republican Party," she said.

On the healthcare front, Ros-Lehtinen said the Affordable Care  Act is sure to be "an economic disaster," noting she voted "40 times to defund, dismantle Obamacare." But she said she hoped Congress would find a way to stop the health law without a government shutdown.

"People don't want the government to shut down but, at the same time, there's a great sense of anxiety in our small business community and young people who are going to be paying a lot of money for their insurance premiums," she said.

The Cuban native said she's still hopeful Democracy will come to the island nation, but blasted the administration for the "windfall" they have allowed there.
"They don't deserve the breaks that the Obama administration is giving them," she said.
"It's been a windfall for the Castro regime these years that Obama has been president. What a shame. Democracy is going to come but it's going to come because we're going to get tough on the regime and help the Cuban people rid themselves of this dictatorship."

Article 2, Sec. 3 of the Constitution charges the President “shall take care that the Laws be faithfully executed.” It doesn’t say that he “should” execute the laws of the United States; it uses the imperative “shall.”
Nor does the Constitution say that the President can pick and choose to enforce some of the laws, or just the ones he likes.
Nor does the Constitution give the President the authority to create new laws. Article 1, Sec. 1 is clear on that point; “All legislative Powers herein granted shall be vested in a Congress of the United States which shall consist of a Senate and House of Representatives.”
The editors at Investor’s Business Daily picked up on the issue, too. Following is what they call “just a small sampling” of a “Lengthy Legacy of Lawlessness.”
Aug. 14, 2013: The Obama administration delayed the provision in ObamaCare to cap out-of-pocket health care costs, picking and choosing parts of the law to enforce, which is to exceed its authority.

July 17, 2013: The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals joined the federal appeals courts in D.C. and Philadelphia in ruling President Obama’s National Labor Relations Board recess appointments — who by law must be approved by Congress — were unconstitutional. Thus far, the president has ignored the ruling.
July 1, 2013: The Obama administration unilaterally decided to delay the employer mandate provision of ObamaCare for a year, which is to provide information to the feds about the extent of an applicant’s insurance. Never mind that the law states the mandate must go into effect on Jan. 1, 2014 — they are now relying on the “honor system” from applicants to determine if they are qualified for subsidies.
June 25, 2013: The Supreme Court ruled in Shelby County v. Eric Holder that Section 4 of the Voting Rights Act is “unconstitutional” and that “the formula can no longer be used as a basis for subjecting jurisdiction to preclearance.” Instead of complying with the ruling, Holder filed suit to order Texas to submit to preclearance, in defiance of Congress’ authority to legislate and the Supreme Court’s authority to rule on the constitutionality of the law.
June 15, 2012: The Obama administration announced it will stop deporting illegal immigrants under the age of 30 in a “deferred action” policy to circumvent immigration laws. This comes after Congress rejected a similar measure about a year ago. Since then, more than 500,000 illegals have received the deferment and only 20,000 have been rejected. As for the law-abiding applicants who have been waiting in line, well, that’s Obama’s idea of “lawfulness.”

Employers dropping coverage for thousands of spouses over ObamaCare costs

Republican lawmakers are raising new concerns about ObamaCare after several large employers announced they are dropping health coverage for some employee spouses due to rising costs under the new law.
Both the University of Virginia and UPS told their employees recently they are no longer offering spousal coverage to those able to obtain insurance elsewhere; meaning thousands of Americans will no longer be able to choose the benefits they prefer.
UVA said Wednesday this is only one of many “major changes” coming to their health plans as a result of ObamaCare. The university says the changes are necessary because the law is projected to add $7.3 million to the cost of the university’s health plan in 2014 alone.
“The modified plan will provide new options and reward those who participate in wellness programs,” UVA’s Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Susan Carkeek said in a press release. “But we must make adjustments or face millions of dollars in rising costs, fees and taxes that would be passed along to employees.”
Similarly, UPS partially blamed the new health law for the change, which is estimated to affect roughly 15,000 employee spouses.
The rising cost of health care "combined with the costs associated with the Affordable Care Act, have made it increasingly difficult to continue providing the same level of health care benefits to our employees at an affordable cost," UPS said.
The trend has drawn the ire of Republicans on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, who cite it as a clear example the Obama administration is not following through on its promise that, “if you like your plan, you can keep it.”
“American families who are already grappling with higher health care costs under the law are also coming face-to-face with the stark reality that they will lose the coverage they have and like,” their office said in a statement Wednesday.
The Obama administration would not respond when asked for comment on the UPS’ new policy by Kaiser Health News, but said when Massachusetts implemented a similar health overhaul, employer coverage actually increased.
“The health care law will make health insurance more affordable, strengthen small businesses and make it easier for employers to provide coverage to their workers,” said Joanne Peters, spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services.
Republican lawmakers say this trend is only one of the concerning effects of ObamaCare, amid reports some companies are citing the law when they reduce employees to part-time hours.

Contracts for future construction in South Florida rose 38 percent in July to $597.3 million from $431.3 million a year earlier, according to McGraw Hill Construction.
Of that, new residential construction contracts rose 52 percent in July to $352.2 million from $232 million a year earlier for the metropolitan area encompassing Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, McGraw Hill said. Nonresidential construction permits were up 23 percent to $245 million in July from $199.3 million a year earlier, the New York-based firm said.
For January through July, new construction contracts totaled $3.70 billion, up 24 percent $2.98 billion in the year-ago period.
Of that, new contracts for residential building jumped 45 percent to $2.19 billion from $1.51 billion during the first seven months of 2013, while new nonresidential construction contracts rose just 2 percent to $1.51 billion from $1.47 billion last year, McGraw Hill said.

Obama Bankrolled Attack On The Benghazi Consulate. AUGUST 22, 2013 BY KRIS ZANE 33 COMMENTS
It has been widely reported in Egyptian media that one of the leaders in the attack against the Benghazi consulate on September 11, 2012 was Mohsen Al-Azazi.

According to Ahmed Moussa, a former high ranking intelligence official with the Egyptian government and several other sources, Al-Azazi’s passport was found in the house of Khairat Al-Shater, the Number Two man in the Muslim Brotherhood hierarchy, now under house arrest in Egypt by the Egyptian military. Al-Azazi has been implicated as the actual assassin of Ambassador Christopher Stevens.
But this is only the beginning of a blockbuster story.
According to Khairat Al-Shater’s son, Saad Al-Shater, his father is in possession of information linking Obama with criminal activities tied to the Muslim Brotherhood.
As reported by at least six Arabic news sources:
In an interview with the Anatolia News Agency, Saad Al-Shater, the son of a Muslim Brotherhood leader, the detained Khairat Al-Shater said that his father had in his hand evidence that will land the head of United States of America, President Obama, in prison.

Further, as reported by several Arabic news sources, citing a Libyan Intelligence document dated September 15, 2012, six Egyptians from the terrorist group Ansar al-Sharia based in Egypt were arrested for the Benghazi attacks and confessed that then-Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood President Mohammed Morsi was behind the attack. Additionally, Muslim Brotherhood researcher Walid Shoebat has obtained a copy of the Libyan Intelligence document and confirms Mohammed Morsi is named in the confession.
Per Shoebat’s translation of the document:
The most distinguished names that were obtained from the confessions by members of the cell, is the person, the President of Egypt, Mohammad Morsi…
The Libyan Intelligence document goes on to name five other co-conspirators, all members of the Muslim Brotherhood.
This is the same Mohammed Morsi who Barack Hussein Obama was fawning over and sent hundreds of millions of dollars to in foreign aid. The same Mohammed Morsi that Obama is stillsupporting, sending his minions to lobby for his release by the Egyptian military. This despite the fact that the Egyptian military has evidence that Morsi conspired with the terrorist group Hamasto murder thousands of Egyptian citizens.
There is even a video of Ansar al-Sharia, the group that attacked the Benghazi consulate,admitting that it was Morsi who was behind the attack. This was broadcast on Libyan TV!
But there’s more.
According to Arabic News Channel TV14 and reported on by Egypt Daily News, Obama sent aneight billion dollar secret bribe to the Muslim Brotherhood to guarantee that the Egyptian Sinai Peninsula be turned over to the terrorist group Hamas. Hamas, a Muslim Brotherhood sister group, works directly with Ansar al-Sharia in the Sinai Peninsula. Channel TV14 goes on to say that the agreement was signed by Mohammed Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood’s second in command, Khairat Al-Shater, now under house arrest in Egypt, who says he has documents that will put Obama in prison!
But it gets worse: the eight billion dollars that Obama sent to the Muslim Brotherhood was shared with Ansar al-Sharia, the group that attacked our consulate and CIA Annex in Benghazi on September 11, 2012.
If all of this proves to be true, Barack Hussein Obama funded the attack on the Benghazi consulate and CIA Annex. Barack Hussein Obama funded the assassination of  U.S. ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. Barack Hussein Obama is therefore an accessory to murder, not to mention a traitor!


Charles Nenner to Moneynews: US Headed for Recession and It's 'Going to Be Bad'

Technical analyst Charles Nenner didn’t mince words when asked about the United States facing another recession.
"It's going to be bad," Nenner told Newsmax TV in an exclusive interview.
"It's very scary because we didn't have a lot of growth and when this economic expansion is over, we're going to be in trouble," the founder and president of the Charles Nenner Research Center said.

"We didn't leverage enough. Cycles go up, go down, take three and a half, four, five years, but if you almost don't jump up and then you're jumping down, then you've jumped down from a much lower level."
He said that "the economy is not going to do much this year. It's going to pick up a little bit next year into the third quarter and then it's going to be messy again."
The economy will be fairly stable until the end of next year, "then we're going back into recession," said Nenner.
He also warned that the economy faces other problems as well, such as deflation, commonly defined as a decrease in the general price level of goods and services. Deflation occurs when the inflation rate falls below 0 percent.
"Deflation is a very serious problem we can still have to deal with and that's much worse than inflation," he said. "So my fear is deflation, not inflation. Inflation will come, it will take another three years until it starts."
He added that he doesn’t see much improvement when it comes to the nation's unemployment level.
"The problem is structural," he said. "There was a lot of outsourcing and then a lot of jobs … don't need a lot of people anymore because of the Internet and IT and all of the technology. People have to think a little bit in a different way and it's going to be very hard to get the unemployment down."
The wide-ranging interview turned to the outlook for gold. "It's a short term trade because it's going to bounce around," he said.
"Until we really have inflation coming, I don't see gold going back to the highs. It will go two and a half thousand. It's just making a bottom slowly, and we are boost[ing] longer term on gold, but it will take time."
He also discussed his outlook for stocks.
"We had a target of 1,720 on the S&P, so once we were [at] about 1,700 we sold all the stocks," he said. "The sentiment [is] too extreme. The market is very risky, so we don't go in anymore. We've been out now for the last three, four months and we're just standing aside."
