Ayer fui informado de que la supuesta Autoridad de los expressways de miami dade MDX ya esta desarrollando la forma de clavarle otro cuchillo en la espalda de los residentes de Miami Dade al poner OTRO TOLL MAS EN EL 836. Esto es un asqueroso abuso mas por parte del gobierno que nos va a cobrar por una carretera que es nuestra, porque esa carretera se construyo con nuestro dinero de los taxes que nos quitaron y nos quitan para mantenerlas. COBRARNOS POR EL USO DE CARRETERAS QUE NOSOTROS FUIMOS LOS QUE LAS PAGAMOS ES UN ROBO POR PARTE DE QUIEN SEA QUIEN LO HAGA. Yo me maravillo de ver como los residentes de Miami Dade han permitido que en el 826 y en la I95 se hallan dejado poner pagos de peaje en esas carreteras y que aqui no halla habido NADIE que halla protestado ENERGICAMENTE en contra de ese atropello. Yo no voy a convocar a ninguna manifestacion para evitar que eso siga ocurriendo, porque creo que aqua hay mas que sufficient lideres de politicos y comunitarios que SON LOS QUE TIENEN QUE HACER ESA CONVOCATORIA. Lo que si hare es que si alguno de ellos, con verguenza y moral programan una protesta u otra forma de evitar que esto ocurra, yo la divulgare y sere uno de los que este en la primera fila gritandole que son unos descarados y unos abusadores.
El Segundo asunto es sobre la porqueria que tenemos de politicos en las posiciones de administration. A todos los niveles de ciudad, condado, estado, congreso y federal nuestros politicos con muy pocas exepciones son la gran plasta. Tenemos un presidente que no puede acumular mas defectos y deficiencias, tenemos un presidente que esta hundiendo la nacion en el desempleo y la deuda del pais, tenemos un presidente que no se sabe ni de donde salio y los botantes han sido capaces de reelegirlo, ahi quien dice que se robaron las elecciones, pero yo no lo creo porque si fuera asi entonces todos los politicos del partido contrario serian un bando de comemierdas y de cobardes. Lo que si se es que: Si individualmente cada uno de nosotros los norteamericanos no nos apretamos el cinto y nos paramos delante de todos estos descarados e inmorales vamos a perder la nacion major del mundo. EGYPTIAN NEWSPAPER’S EXPLOSIVE ALLEGATION: PRESIDENT OBAMA IS A SECRET MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD MEMBER.

Al Jazeera’s blog posted a story Monday featuring tweets from the Director of Research at the Brookings Center in Doha, Qatar, who reported that an Egyptian newspaper’s front page story claimed President Barack Obama is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood.

“Newspaper also claims that son of MB leader threatened Obama w- release of ‘papers’ revealing his MB membership,” writes Shadi Hamid of Brookings.
One could hardly come up with a more explosive allegation about a U.S. president than secret membership in an Islamist group. And if that weren’t enough, the newspaper also claims that President Obama’s half-brother Malik is allegedly an Al Qaeda activist.

Jonathan Spyer, senior research fellow at the Global Research in International Affairs Center and an Arabic speaker, tells TheBlaze that the newspaper — Al-Wafd — specifically accuses Obama of being a member of the international organization of the Muslim Brotherhood.
The article goes on to say that Obama originally embraced the thought of the Brotherhood while living in Indonesia, per Spyer, and further alleges that the son of Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leader Khairat al-Shater had threatened to expose a document revealing the secret membership.
But Syper says such allegations are the result of an angry Egyptian populace expressing frustration.
According to him, the publication of this kind of conspiracy is rooted in the ongoing dissatisfaction on the Egyptian street with the Obama administration’s policy which some have viewed as pro-Muslim Brotherhood.
This was seen clearly during the summer demonstrations calling for then-President Mohammed Morsi to step down. Among the crowds, signs were held deriding President Obama and then U.S. Ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson. They expressed frustration at what those Egyptians perceived to be Obama’s failure to articulate clear criticism of Morsi and his Muslim Brotherhood.
“The forces that overthrew Morsi and the Muslim Brotherhood – namely the Egyptian army and the large civilian demonstrations that supported it — regard the current U.S. administration as a supporter of the deposed Morsi. They offer U.S. delays in arms deliveries and pressure to release Morsi as evidence of this,” Spyer tells TheBlaze.
“There is some degree of justification in their accusations. There is also a large degree of paranoid anti-American and anti-western sentiment in Egypt. As a result, the anger against the Administration has rapidly and predictably turned into conspiracy theories according to which Obama’s admittedly astonishingly naive and misguided attitude toward the Muslim Brotherhood can in fact be explained by the claim that he is a secret member of it,” Spyer explains.
Eric Trager, an Egypt scholar at The Washington Institute for Near East Policy tells TheBlaze, “This sort of conspiracy theorizing is sadly common within the Egyptian media. It reflects Egyptians’ inability to take responsibility for the choices that they’ve made in the past few years – specifically, their choice to elect the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate in the June 2012 presidential election.”
“Many Egyptians blame the United States for allegedly supporting the Brotherhood, when in fact we simply worked with the government that they elected, and some in the Egyptian media have repeated ugly conspiracy theories about President Obama to depict American policy as subversive,” he says.
“It is also a sign that fascistic tendencies are hardening in Egyptian politics, since fascists always need an external enemy to justify their support for, or execution of, repressive policies,” Trager adds.
“Newspapers have run more and more bizarre and farcical stories over the last few months, but this one indeed seems to be the oddest story to have yet been printed,” writes Middle East Monitor. “The American president could indeed be accused of many things, but being a secret member of the Muslim Brotherhood would be the least probable accusation one could level at him.”
It adds that the media have “planted rounds of false stories in the press to tarnish the image of, not only the Brotherhood, but also their supporters or even those who may not be supporters, but are simply calling for a return to democratic legitimacy. And it seems that the media will go to any lengths to smear those who do not fall in line with them.”
The Al-Wafd newspaper is in fact affiliated with the liberal party bearing the same name.
Brookings’ Hamid quipped, “The sheer, unbridled creativity of Egyptian media knows no bounds. This sort of outside-the-box thinking bodes well for #Egypt’s transition.”
Despite dissatisfaction with American policy voiced in secularist corners, the Muslim Brotherhood could also complain about some of the Obama administration’s actions, including the White House’s refusal to label the ousting of President Morsi a coup.

Obama a Member of Muslim Brotherhood -- Egyptian Media Al Gore may regret selling his Current TV to al-Jazeera after this. Al-Jazeera, the Left's new favorite news outlet, has reported that an Egyptian newspaper ran a front page headline naming President Obama as a member of the Muslim Brotherhood. Previously, the vice president of Egypt's high court had said publicly that Obama's brother Malik is an international finance officer for the Brotherhood. According to al-Jazeera, Brookings Institute Doha Center Director of Research Shadi Hamid tweeted about the story printed in an Egyptian newspaper. Hamid in his Twitter feed seemed to express skepticism about the story, saying the Egyptian media were being "creative." But News Agency Anatolia in Turkey recently reported an interview with Saad Al-Shater, the son of imprisoned Muslim Brotherhood leader Khairat Al-Shater, that said he had incriminating evidence against Obama. The elder Shater is the subject of U.S. State Department efforts, that included Sens. John McCain and Lindsey Graham, to get Muslim Brotherhood prisoners released. According to the news agency, the younger Shater said the reason the U.S. had sent a delegation to Egypt to negotiate a prisoner release is because his father has "in his hand" evidence that could put Obama in prison. Saad al-Shater said the evidence had been distributed to trusted people both inside and outside Egypt and that the only way to keep the information from being revealed was to get his father released. He said the U.S. was warned through intermediaries about the release of the information and that this may have caused a change in the U.S. position on Egypt. The interview was first printed in early August, so the reference to a U.S. delegation seems to have been to a mission by McCain, Graham and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, during which McCain and Graham called the jailed Muslim Brotherhood members "political prisoners" and said not releasing them would be "a huge mistake." The delegation was rebuffed by Egypt's interim president. In an Aug. 6 CNN interview, McCain mentioned Khairat Al-Shater as someone who could be key in negotiating a future Egyptian government. Whether the story about Obama being a member of the Muslim Brotherhood is true or not, the Obama Administration is believed by many people to be infiltrated by numerous Brotherhood agents, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's top aide. The Administration is clearly sympathetic toward the Brotherhood, having welcomed the presidency of Mohammed Morsi in Egypt, and having backed al-Qaeda-connected "rebels" in Syria. Much of the reticence of allies and U.S. politicians to support intervention in Syria has to do with the known terrorist connections of the people Obama wants us to support. If Obama's not an actual Muslim Brotherhood member, he's the next worst thing, a supporter and enabler.

By day, Ayo Kimathi works for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as a small business specialist in a unit that buys such items as handcuffs, ammunition and guns.
Off-duty, he calls himself “the Irritated Genie.” He’s a gay-bashing, revenge-seeking black nationalist who advocates on his website – War on the Horizon – the mass murder of whites and the “ethnic cleansing” of “black-skinned Uncle Tom race traitors.”
“Warfare is eminent,” the website declares, “and in order for Black people to survive the 21st century, we are going to have to kill a lot of whites – more than our Christian hearts can possibly count.”
A former supervisor of Kimathi’s at the DHS told Hatewatch, “Everybody in the office is afraid of him.”
“This guy is filled with hate,” the supervisor continued. “People are afraid he will come in with a gun someday and go postal. I am astounded, he’s employed by the federal government, let alone Homeland Security.”
When reached by telephone today and asked by Hatewatch if he is the Irritated Genie, Kimathi hung up. The night before, a woman answered the phone at his website, known as WOH, and refused to say whether the Irritated Genie is Ayo Kimathi.
“He just goes by the Irritated Genie,” she said, promising to pass along an interview request.
The website has designated August as “Nat Turner Month” in honor of the slave who led a bloody rebellion in Virginia in 1831. One of the ways in which WOH recommends Nat Turner be celebrated is for black people to “Plan every act of vengeance, retaliation, protest, aggression, etc. … for the month of August knowing that the ancestors, and especially Prophet Nat, Boukman Dutty, andJean-Jacques Dessalines, will be with you as you do your hunting.”
Kimathi’s former supervisor discovered Kimathi’s hateful Internet presence in mid-June. “When I saw the website, I was stunned,” she said. “To see the hate, to know that he is a federal employee, it bothered me”.
Kimathi works for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a division of Homeland Security. Because it is a law enforcement agency, the supervisor said, employees are required to obtain official permission in writing for any outside activities, such as working a second job at McDonalds, running the bingo game at church, or volunteering at the Red Cross.
Kimathi obtained official permission but only by misrepresenting the true nature of his endeavor. He told management that it was an entertainment website selling videos of concerts and lectures. He called it simply WOH, never saying that WOH stood for War on the Horizon.
“If he had adequately and truthfully described his group,” the supervisor said, “I can’t imagine for a minute he would have been granted permission.”
Kimathi also spreads his message of pending race war and genocide and his disgust with “the smallhates (white so-called ‘jews’) and the white homos like Gay Edgar Hoover” in a series of videos and speeches he gives around the country.
The enemies’ list on WOH rivals that of President Richard Nixon’s in terms of length. It includes, among others, Rev. Al Sharpton, Lil Wayne, Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Condoleezza Rice, Colin Powell, who he calls “Colon,” and even President Obama, “a treasonous mulatto scum dweller … who will fight against reparations for Black people in amerikkka, but in favor of fag rights for freaks in amerikkka and Afrika.”
Kimathi’s former supervisor said among his duties at DHS and ICE is speaking at various vendor events. He’s one of the agency’s public faces. It is his job to advocate for small business owners “white, black, historically disadvantaged, disabled veteran-owned, everybody,” the supervisor said.
“He fights for the little guy,” the supervisor said. “And he’s very good at it. He has a commanding presence. He’s very suave. It’s almost as if he has a split personality.”
The homepage of WOH says the organization was created “for the purpose of preparing Black people worldwide for an unavoidable, inevitable clash with the white race. whites [sic] around the world are absolutely determined to exterminate Afrikan people in all corners of the Earth.
“As a result of this reality, WOH has dedicated our time and expertise to properly educating Black people to prepare for Racial Warfare. This includes intellectual, spiritual, psychological, and physical preparation for a global clash that will mean the end of white rule on this planet or the end of the Black Race as we know it.
“Please review the information on our site to understand the threat our people are facing so that you may make the right decisions in preparation for this reality.

Gingrich Urges 'No' Vote on Syria
Tuesday, 03 Sep 2013 04:40 PM By Newsmax WiresHouse Speaker Newt Gingrich urged Congress Tuesday to "vote no" on a military strike against Syria and instead begin debate on what he described as even bigger strategic challenges for the United States and the world.
"The most powerful nation in the world does not need a three- or four-week debate about a limited, symbolic, tactical use of power," the Georgia Republican wrote Tuesday in anopinion piece for CNN, as he urged Congress to "vote no on a meaningless public relations use of military force against [Syrian President Bashar Assad].
"What we do need are three debates about very large strategic challenges," he added, referring to Iran's nuclear program, the spread of radical Islamism, and the vulnerabilities in the U.S. military being created by "budgetary drawdowns."
"Each of these challenges is massively bigger and vastly more important to our survival than the symbolic Syrian attack," Gingrich said.
The former 2012 GOP presidential candidate, now a co-host of CNN's "Crossfire," said that "launching a few missiles at Syria" as a tactical action "will not change history." But he insisted that refusing to address the three challenges he laid out would have much larger repercussions.
Citing what he said were 12 years of doing nothing to address Iran's nuclear development efforts under both Presidents Obama and Republican George W. Bush, Gingrich said the time has finally come for "a national debate about stopping Iran from getting nuclear weapons."
"We did nothing decisive for seven years under President George W. Bush even after he described Iran as part of the axis of evil (along with Saddam Hussein's Iraq and the North Korean dictatorship). In the first five years of Obama's administration, we have continued to do nothing decisive. Meanwhile, day by day the Iranian dictatorship works at acquiring nuclear weapons," he said.
Gingrich called for a similar debate on the "threat of radical Islamism."
"From Benghazi in Libya to the opposition to [Assad] in Syria to the unrest in Egypt, there is overwhelming evidence the death of Osama bin Laden did nothing to defeat radical Islamists," he continued. "There are more of them today than ever and more coming from Western Europe and America to join the fight in Syria.
"When Chechen Muslim terrorists set off a bomb in Boston, there is clear evidence that the war against radical Islamists is going to be bigger and harder than anything for which we have prepared. This is a vastly more important topic [than] a brief missile assault on [Syria]."
Finally, Gingrich said there must be a debate on "the budgetary drawdowns in the American military [that are] rapidly creating a generation of vulnerabilities unlike anything we have seen since Pearl Harbor in 1941.

"For 72 years, we have lived in a world of massive American power. The decline of the Navy, the gradual obsolescence of the Air Force, the shrinking of the Army and Marine Corps, and the emergence of new technologies are all combining to create a national security challenge of historic proportions," he continued, adding that a debate about reforms to ensure the adequate "sizing and funding of American defense forces" is "vastly more important to our survival and safety than a mere skirmish in the Mediterranean against Syria."
"Both parties in Washington are unprepared for the three debates that matter," Gingrich concluded, accusing the nation's leaders of preferring to deal with "trivia to stay busy" so they won't "have to face the really big issues."

Wearing a dreamy smile, Obama replies: "In a day, a week, a month, a year, 10 years - or however many years you can count."
The implicit mockery reflects a suspicion among both friends and foes of Washington in the Middle East that Obama's move to refer military action to Congress is a sure sign of weakness - and one that places unprecedented strains on the credibility of his administration in its standoff with Syria and Iran.

Obama's abrupt decision on Saturday to halt plans to punish Assad for using poison gas and instead wait for congressional approval momentarily united a fractious region in astonishment.
Reflecting a widespread view voiced in interviews by Reuters across the region, Algeria's El Watan newspaper said Assad's foes seemed riven with doubt in their confrontation with the embattled Syrian leader, fearing intervention would be a "flop".
At the same time, sentiment across the Middle East often differentiates between Obama's deliberative - some critics say hesitant - leadership style, and an abiding perception of the United States as a superpower bent on policing the region on behalf of its friend Israel and of oil-rich Gulf Arab allies.
Used to the uncompromising approach of his predecessor, George W. Bush, who proclaimed "You are either with us or you are with the terrorists" in the wake of the 9/11 attacks of 2001 and went on to invade Iraq in 2003, many Arabs tend to see Obama's apparent distaste for war as unusual, even exceptional.
Wathiq al-Hashimi of the Iraqi Group for Strategic Studies, said Arabs associated wars in the region with Republicans rather than Obama's Democrats; the end of the Cold War gave Washington scope to attack former proteges of Moscow, notably in Iraq, in conflicts launched by Bush and by his father a decade earlier.
At the same time, Hashimi said, Obama's move was confusing for many in the region and represented "a retreat".
Mohammed Yassin, a 45-year-old Palestinian in Gaza said Obama did not look like the "tough guy Bush was". Employing an Arab nickname for Obama, derived from his Kenyan father's name, Yassin said, smiling: "Abu Hussein has no balls."
Assad deserved punishment, but not from foreigners, he said.
"There's a saying in Syria: a barking dog never bites," said Adnan Diab, a Syrian teacher living in Lebanon. "That's what we expect ... God willing, nothing will happen."
In Istanbul, Mustafa Toprak, a 37-year-old salesman, sucking on a water pipe at a café on the shores of the Bosphorus, said the hold-up made Obama look both weak and insincere.
In downtown Cairo, Mohsin Ahmad El-Tayeb, 38, selling bags on the street, described Obama as "wavering" and holding two or three opinions at once: "He definitely won't strike Syria now."
That is precisely the outcome Assad's enemies fear.
A number of Syrian opposition figures contacted by Reuters said they remained confident Obama would eventually carry out a strike on Assad's forces, possibly a substantial one.
Speaking from Berlin, veteran Syrian opposition campaigner Fawaz Tello said it would be bizarre if Obama had assembled all his military might just to give Assad "a slap on the wrist".
Ayman Abdel Nour, a former university friend and adviser to Assad who left Syria in 2007, said that if there was a strike that went beyond the cosmetic, some top officers would defect.
Yet among allies of the opposition, doubts persist.
In Saudi Arabia, a foe of Assad which has continued to urge international intervention since Obama's decision to delay a strike, there was no response from two officials contacted for comment. But analysts say that in private there was concern.
Abdulaziz al Sager, chairman of the Gulf Research Centre, said Obama's decision "reflects a lack of resolve", something he said had been evident since the beginning of the Syrian crisis:
"There is a deep sense of disappointment in the Gulf region with the president's decision to seek the Congress's approval."
For their part, senior Obama administration officials are arguing that Obama's move to consult Congress should be seen as one that would buttress his decision and America's credibility abroad - assuming Congress backs the president.
They warn it would undermine the credibility of the United States in the Middle East and around the world if Congress does not approve his deployment of military force in Syria.
Anthony Cordesman of Washington's Center for Strategic and International Studies wrote that Obama had to show real leadership, "not overreaction, sudden reversal and uncertainty".
A No vote in Congress would be a "near disaster", the military scholar wrote. U.S. influence in the Middle East would be seriously undermined and the United States would still have no meaningful strategy for the Syrian war, he added.
Echoing Cordesman's concern, Yezigh Sayigh of the Carnegie Middle East think tank in Beirut said that the absence of a Syria policy was why Obama appeared to be "dithering", and this arguably reflected Washington's wider struggle to engage with the region since the Arab uprisings of early 2011.

Assad's ally, Iran, involved in its own standoff with major powers over its nuclear programme, has been circumspect.
But lawmaker Alaeddin Boroujerdi, chairman of the Tehran parliament's foreign affairs committee, was quoted as saying he hoped Congress would vote against an attack - in line with what he said were the wishes of the U.S. people.
Similarly, more diplomacy is what Tehran hopes Washington will continue to practise toward Iran, which denies Western accusations it is trying to develop nuclear weapons.
A diplomat based in Tehran said the Iranian government had seen Obama's decision as U.S. weakness. The first reaction from Iranian officials was one of "glee", the diplomat said.
Israelis see in the Syria showdown a test of the Americans' ability to make good on a pledge to deny Iran the means to make a nuclear bomb through military force if diplomacy fails.
In Israel, which sees Iran's programme as a direct threat, authorities have been polite in public about the hold-up in U.S. Syria preparations. But privately there may be reservations.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to whom Obama last year promised that he would "always have Israel's back", ordered his ministers not to discuss Syria openly. But this was ignored by ultra-nationalist economy minister Naftali Bennett.
"More than 1,000 civilians, many of them babies and children, were murdered by a dark regime using poison gas. And the world hesitates," Bennett wrote on Facebook.
"At the moment of truth, we will depend only on ourselves."
Jerusalem resident Jay Shapiro, his white hair covered by a red baseball cap, recalled a century-old adage about it being U.S. foreign policy to speak softly and carry a big stick:
"President Obama has the opposite policy. He speaks loudly and carries no stick," Shapiro said. "He doesn't have our back. He doesn't even have America's back."

(CNN) — Mientras Estados Unidos sopesa la posibilidad de llevar a cabo ataques militares contra Siria en respuesta al supuesto ataque con armas químicas, tiene que considerar una cuestión crítica: ¿qué pasará después?
Un amplio sector de expertos en la región coinciden: un ataque con misiles podría empeorar la guerra en Siria y provocar una variedad de problemas nuevos.
“El asunto clave no es la táctica de los ataques, sino la estrategia posterior”, dice Anthony Cordesman, exfuncionario del Departamento de Defensa que ahora trabaja para el Centro de Estudios Estratégicos e Internacionales.
La mayoría de los expertos cree que el blanco del ataque sería el arsenal del régimen sirio, no los sitios en los que se sospecha que se almacenan las armas químicas. Esta última sería la “peor opción posible” y podría esparcir las sustancias químicas al viento, señala Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, excomandante del regimiento de defensa química de las fuerzas armadas británicas.

“Un ataque limitado acabaría con la moral de las fuerzas del régimen y provocaría deserciones y escisiones”, dice Jeffrey White, del Instituto Washington para las Políticas del Cercano Oriente.
Los analistas dicen que la oposición se envalentonará, incluido el Frente Al Nusra de al Qaeda. “Si la oposición gana, al Qaeda ganará el poder”, dijo Michael Rubin, exfuncionario del Pentágono que ahora trabaja para el Instituto American Enterprise.

Es improbable que el ataque dañe gravemente a al Asad, dicen los analistas. Sin embargo, un ataque limitado conlleva riesgos. “Podría ser peor que no hacer nada”, dice Christopher Harmer, analista naval del Instituto para el Estudio de la Guerra. No es probable que Siria ataque los intereses de EU, según los analistas. “Podrían tratar de derribar a los bombarderos estadounidenses, si es que se usan, pero tienen pocas oportunidades contra los misiles de largo alcance”, dice Benjamin Friedman del Instituto Cato. “Las fuerzas del régimen están atadas frente a los rebeldes y carecen de una fuerza aérea o de misiles confiables para atacar cualquier objetivo estadounidense de importancia”.
Si Siria se las arreglara para atacar un objetivo estadounidense, “solo provocaría que la opinión en Estados Unidos se inclinara a la guerra e invitaría a una mayor intervención militar estadounidense”, que es lo último que quiere el régimen sirio. “Para Siria es más fácil atacar a Israel, pero las represalias de Israel traerían consecuencias graves similares”, dice Friedman.

En Jordania, Siria “tal vez patrocine a grupos” para atacar centros comerciales, hoteles y objetivos del gobierno, explica Abi Ali.
Habría un “alto riesgo” de ataques patrocinados por Irán en contra de los intereses occidentales en todo el mundo, desde India hasta Tailandia o Brasil, dice Abi Ali. También es probable que Rusia tome medidas contra empresas en Estados Unidos y otros países, agrega.

“Los puntos de vista y las afirmaciones de victoria no podrán evitar estos problemas. Nada puede evitar que los críticos hagan referencia válidamente a cada error que Estados Unidos ha cometido en sus intervenciones anteriores en la región y en el mundo”.
“Lo preocupante aquí es que Estados Unidos podría quedar envuelto aún más profundamente en Siria”, dice Borghard. Sin embargo, “no hacer nada no es la respuesta”, dice Cordesman. Syria shows Obama's unsteadiness

Dwight Eisenhower once declared that the pursuit of peace required unwavering boldness, and the execution to back it up. To proclaim you want peace "is easy," the war hero turned president said during his second inauguration speech. "To serve it will be hard. And to attain it, we must be ... ready to pay its full price."
President Obama and his national security team might want to go back to the textbooks and absorb some of old Ike's wisdom.
No matter where one stands on the crises in the Middle East, there's little argument right now on either side of the political aisle that the president's handling of Syria is no way to conduct American foreign policy. It has defied all the rules, conventions and wisdom accrued on the global stage since the days of Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman.
For nearly a century now, American presidents have followed a careful path when the use of military might is at stake. Democrats and Republicans alike have decided with the cameras off what the right thing is to do, crafted a plan with advisers in private to get it done, marshaled overwhelming resources to ensure victory, assembled the political will both at home and abroad to go forward ... and then declared publicly what they were doing.
When that declaration was made, there was no doubt among friend or foe that America intended to follow through, and imminently.
Not so under Mr. Obama.
He declared with rhetorical flourish a few years back that he wanted to ride the great wave of democratic hope fostered by the Arab Spring. But there was no clear pattern of aid, military advice or diplomatic strategy to ensure the right democratic forces emerged in the Middle East and North Africa.
As a result, two of the world's most tinderbox regions have become playgrounds for Islamist extremists, engulfing some of America's most important allies like Israel, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain in a sea of instability with no clear U.S. policy or prerogative.
Two years ago, Mr. Obama declared quite spontaneously that Syrian strongman Bashar Assad had to go. But there was no plan to back it up. No military aid to the rebels, and no consolidating of allied consensus. And in the vacuum of strategy and execution, two terrible things happened.
Hezbollah and its backers in Iran joined the fight on Mr. Assad's side, with advice from Russia's best military generals. And the ragtag group of rebels was forced to turn to the likes of al Qaeda and similar Islamist groups for support, supplies and bodies. The ensuing chaos has now left Americans with a civil war battlefield where the good and bad guys are almost indistinguishable.
A year ago, Mr. Obama did it again. He drew a red line in the sand by declaring that the use of any chemical weapons by Mr. Assad's forces would be punished. But when the first evidence of chemical weapons usage emerged months ago, the administration vacillated, signaling clearly that it did not have the political will or a military plan at the time.
It only emboldened Mr. Assad's forces, who late last month reportedly used sarin gas shells to kill more than 1,400 men, women and children in a Syrian opposition village. The president and his advisers, led by Secretary of State John F. Kerry, immediately declared the red line had been crossed and military action was imminent.
That was a week ago. The president's advisers were leaking endlessly, promising a limited military strike was just hours away. The entire battle plan - even with identified Syrian targets - was splashed across the front pages of newspapers, including The Washington Times. British Prime Minister David Cameron rushed to join the operation, but he took the case to Parliament ... and failed. This was the first time since 1782 that a British ruling party had lost a vote on an issue of war (ironically, that vote effectively acknowledged the U.S. victory in the War of American Independence).
Then nothing happened. Instead, the young president, with his more experienced Vice President Joseph R. Biden in tow, showed up on a sun-splashed Saturday afternoon in the Rose Garden to make the most unusual capitulation seen in U.S. foreign policy in decades.
Mr. Obama said he had decided to order military strikes but was holding the order in abeyance until Congress could come back from summer recess and vote on authorizing the operation. He didn't even answer what would happen if lawmakers rejected the notion. In other words, the world's most powerful leader yielded his pilot stick.
The U.S. military - with its cruise missiles hot and spinning - is now left in a holding pattern. The Syrian rebels currently have no confidence they can rely on the administration's word. Mr. Assad has little to fear at present because Congress doesn't even come back until Sept. 9, giving his forces and their Russian advisers time to move assets and adjust to protect the already identified targets.
And the entire world is left to wonder what might happen if Mr. Assad uses chemical weapons again during the interim congressional debate.
Mr. Obama's zigzagging has turned the once great hope of the Arab Spring into the autumn of U.S. influence around the globe. A feeble United Nations - which pulled its inspectors out of Syria over the weekend for fear of a strike - can scoff at last week's bluff. European allies who don't want any more war anywhere right now feel like they have leverage against an indecisive U.S. And Russia and Iran see even greater opportunity to come to the rescue of Mr. Assad in an effort to extend the American embarrassment.
None of this is to say Mr. Obama's values are wrong by American standards. Wanting to embrace democracy in emerging places around the world is as American as apple pie. Seeking to punish a violation of the chemical weapons treaty ratified by most of the world is essential. Coming to the aid of women and children slaughtered by poisonous gas is morally correct. And getting the consensus of Congress and U.S. allies is always preferred.
The problem for Mr. Obama is he has the sequence and execution wrong. He speaks first - often quite eloquently - before the planning and execution and will-building are complete. And the result is a series of hollow declarations that have eroded American supremacy, reputation and standing.
If the ghosts of presidents past could speak, they might tell the current occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.: "Mr. President, this is no way to conduct foreign policy."
They'd have a little advice, too. Calvin Coolidge might tell Mr. Obama to speak a little less. Harry Truman might urge the 44th president to plan a little more. And Ronald Reagan might insist on waffling a little less.
The good news is there is still time to fix the damage.

Cuando cojo células sanas y las coloco en un entorno nocivo, la células enferman y mueren.Si un médico las mirara, diría: “¿Qué medicina hay que darles?” ¡Pero no hace falta ninguna medicina! Les cambias el entorno nocivo, las colocas en uno sano y saludable y las células sanan. Los humanos somos una comunidad de 50 trillones de células, por tanto, la célula es el ser viviente y la persona es una comunidad.
¿Cuál es el entorno de la célula que hay que cuidar?
Dentro de mí hay 50 trillones de células y el entorno celular para nosotros es la sangre, por ello la composición de la sangre cambia el destino de la célula. ¿Y qué controla la sangre? Pues el sistema nervioso, que crea una química diferente según el sistema exterior. La célula y el ser humano son la misma cosa. Por tanto, la medicina culpa a las células por la enfermedad y trata de cambiar la química de las células, pero ese no es el problema, el problema es el entorno. Y si cambias a la persona de entorno, sin medicamentos, el cerebro cambia la química. El cerebro de la célula y el de la persona leen y entienden el entorno.
En un entorno sano, ¿nos curamos automáticamente? ¿Así de fácil?
No es tan fácil, porque la mente interpreta. Puede suceder que estemos en un entorno muy sano y que la mente lo lea como un entorno negativo o perjudicial. Entonces crea una química que hará a mi cuerpo enfermar. La diferencia entre la célula y el ser humano es que este tiene una mente que hace una interpretación y la célula lee el entorno directamente. Si metes un programa con errores en la mente, entonces la química que genera no está en armonía con la vida. Y esto nos sirve para entender cómo funciona un placebo. Cambio mi creencia y pienso que esto me va a sanar, tomo una píldora porque creo que esto me va a traer salud, y me mejora y me sana, pero la píldora podría ser de azúcar, en realidad no ha hecho nada, han sido mis creencias. Y a eso lo llamamos pensamientos positivos y efecto placebo.
¿Está diciendo que el efecto placebo –creer que algo nos sanará– es más curativo que un medicamento? Pero no hay casi investigaciones sobre eso.
Sí, tienes razón. ¿Eres consciente de que hay más de una manera de hacer energía sin tener que depender del petróleo? Pero seguimos dependiendo del petróleo porque no interesa el cambio a los que controlan la energía. Lo mismo pasa con las empresas farmacéuticas. Venden fármacos y ¿poder sanar sin fármacos es bueno o malo para la industria farmacéutica? No quieren que sanes sin comprar sus fármacos. ¿Se puede poner energía en una cápsula? Si fuera así, las farmacéuticas intentarían vendértela. Si puedo sanar sin usar medicamentos, la industria que los produce no gana dinero. El dinero controla la ciencia.
Explíquenos cómo funciona ese poder que dice que tiene la mente para la autocuración.
He hablado de que la mente controla: si piensa de una manera, se va en una dirección y, si piensa de otra, se va en otra. Por ejemplo, cierro los ojos, los abro y veo a alguien a quien amo. Entonces mi cerebro segrega dopamina, oxitocina, etc. Lo puedo sentir en mi cuerpo, puedo sentir el amor, y esa química trae salud a las células. Por eso, quien se enamora se siente tan bien. Pero si abro los ojos y veo algo que me asusta, segrego hormonas del estrés. Y estas hacen dos cosas. La primera es que frenan el crecimiento del cuerpo. Porque si me está persiguiendo un león, necesito toda la energía para poder escaparme, y mi organismo apaga todo lo que no sea imprescindible para correr más rápido, así que se paraliza todo lo que tiene que ver con el crecimiento. La gente no lo sabe, pero tienes que crecer todos los días, porque, si no, te mueres. Cada día cientos de billones de células mueren y tienes que ir produciendo nuevas. Cada tres días, el sistema digestivo renueva sus células, pero si se interfiere con ese crecimiento, entonces no puedo estar sano porque estoy perdiendo demasiadas células al día, por eso la quimioterapia hace que se caiga el pelo y crea problemas de digestión, porque mata todas las células, no solo las del cáncer. La segunda consecuencia de las hormonas del estrés es que se cierra todo aquello que usa energía, y el sistema inmunitario usa muchísima energía: cuando estás enfermo, te sientes muy cansado porque tu energía la está usando el sistema inmunitario.
Explíquenos qué es la medicina cuántica o medicina de la energía.
Las hormonas del estrés apagan el sistema inmunitario, incluso la medicina usa este efecto en algunas ocasiones. Por ejemplo, si me trasplantaran un corazón, mi sistema inmunitario lo rechazaría. En esos casos, los médicos dan hormonas del estrés y eso impide que funcione el sistema inmunitario. Es tan claro que suprime el sistema inmunitario que lo usamos como un medicamento. Cuando la persona está bajo estrés, afecta de dos maneras: la primera es que deja de haber crecimiento y la segunda es que se apaga el sistema inmunitario. De esta forma, virus nocivos pueden atacarme fácilmente. Cuando estás bajo mucho estrés, te enfermas. Y debo decir que, si tomamos una muestra de sangre de cada persona, descubrimos que todos tenemos células cancerígenas. Las tenemos siempre, pero si está funcionando el sistema inmunitario, no pueden crecer. Una vez que se apaga el sistema inmunitario, proliferan. Es como el catarro: no tienes que coger el virus, ya lo tienes dentro. Son organismos oportunistas. Como decía, la primera razón por la que la medicina de hoy es cuestionable es porque los médicos no saben cómo funcionan las células. La segunda es que la medicina está basada en la física de Newton. No reconoce la energía, esa parte invisible, las señales electromagnéticas. Pero, a principios del siglo XX, apareció la física cuántica, que dice que todo es energía, lo que podemos ver y también lo invisible. Si miras dentro del átomo, hay electrones, protones, neutrones. ¿Y qué hay dentro? Energía. La ciencia más reciente indica que el cuerpo responde a la física cuántica, no a la newtoniania. La medicina dice que quiere cambiar la química del organismo con drogas y la nueva medicina dice que hay que cambiar la energía. Y esta nueva medicina, la cuántica, es mucho más poderosa, porque responde primero el campo energético que el físico.
Y eso enlaza con la física cuántica. Si todo es energía, ¿los pensamientos también? ¿Cómo influyen en nuestra salud?
La mente es energía. Cuando piensas, transmites energía, y los pensamientos son más poderosos que la química. Así que esto es peor para las empresas farmacéuticas porque no lo pueden vender. Por tanto, no les interesa una conexión entre la mente y el cuerpo. Pero es cierto que las propias creencias se convierten en un campo energético, una transmisión, y esta se transforma en una señal que es capaz de cambiar el organismo. Y así es como funcionaba la sanación antes del desarrollo de la medicina. La gente sanaba con los chamanes, con las manos... pero eso no puede vender y por eso la medicina no quiere ir por ese camino. Y es la razón por la que yo cambié mi carrera. Estaba enseñando en la universidad que hay que seguir con drogas y sabía que eso no era verdad. La medicina lo conoce, pero no habla de ello. Sabe que el pensamiento positivo, el placebo, puede sanar, y también que el pensamiento negativo puede matar. En realidad, no es que sea positivo o negativo, es la manera de pensar. Si el médico te dice que tienes cáncer, aunque no tengas cáncer, si lo crees, crearás la química que generará cáncer. Por tanto, el problema no es tanto el entorno real sino el que tú interpretas. Por eso no funciona la medicina, porque no reconoce la ciencia cuántica. No mira hacia ahí porque el dinero está en otro lado.
Usted ha explicado que, en la mente, quien realmente tiene el poder es el subconsciente, ¿por eso es tan difícil cambiar hábitos de pensamiento?
Es millones de veces más poderoso y más importante que la mente consciente. Utilizamos el subconsciente el 95 por ciento del tiempo.
Pero no lo podemos controlar.
Lo puedes reprogramar. La información del subconsciente se recibe en los primeros seis años de vida. Eso que aprendiste en esos años se convierte en el conocimiento fundamental de tu vida. Por tanto, hay muchos estudios que demuestran que las enfermedades que tenemos de adultos, como el cáncer, tienen que ver con la programación y el entorno que vivimos en los primeros seis años de vida.
Es decir, los niños absorben también sus enfermedades o sus actitudes negativas, y así se 'programa' su subconsciente. ¡Qué gran responsabilidad para los padres!
La gente, cuando oye esto, se preocupa, se culpa. Pero no eres culpable si tú no sabes que el subconsciente funciona así. No lo sabían nuestros padres, ni nuestros abuelos ni bisabuelos. Ahora bien, cuando lo entiendes, tienes que cambiar tu manera de vivir, porque entonces sí eres responsable. Está demostrado que si un niño adoptado vive en su familia casos de cáncer, en su madurez puede padecer cáncer aunque su genética sea diferente. Si te enseñaron a maltratar tu cuerpo con mala información, destruirás el vehículo de tu cuerpo, cuyo conductor es la mente. El futuro es una mejor educación para los niños, incluso en la etapa prenatal.
¿Podemos reprogramar el subconsciente para estar más sanos o ser más felices con nuestra vida?Los comportamientos que vienen del subconsciente no los percibes y pueden estar haciéndote daño. Quizás te sientes enfermo y echas la culpa a otra cosa. Al cambiar estos programas erróneos en el subconsciente, puedes recrear toda tu vida. Hay varias maneras de hacerlo. Se piensa que, cuando la mente consciente registra algo, la subconsciente también filtra esa informacion, pero no es así. La mente consciente es creativa y la subconsciente trata de todos los hábitos. Si le enseñas al subconsciente algo diferente, se lo enseñas también a la consciente, pero no al revés. Por ello, la manera de reprogramar es repetir y repetir hasta que se crea un hábito. Si leo un libro de autoayuda, mi mente consciente dice: “Sé todo lo que hay en el libro y lo aplico”, pero la subconsciente no se entera de nada. Entonces, piensas: “¿Por que sé tanto y todavía mi cuerpo no funciona?”. Los pensamientos positivos, el conocimiento... solo funcionan el 5% del tiempo, pero el 95% son los hábitos que tengo desde mi niñez. Y esa es la razón por la que los pensamientos positivos no son suficientes. Ayudan, pero no ves muchos resultados. Todo sigue igual hasta que no cambias el subconsciente.
Con su investigación, ha aunado ciencia y creencia, un binomio que evita la mayoría de los científicos. ¿Usted cree en la eternidad? Absolutamente, sí. No hay dos personas iguales, y lo digo desde el punto vista biológico. Si cojo mis celulas y las tralado a tu cuerpo, no soy yo, el sistema inmunitario las rechaza. En las células hay como una especie de antenas en miniatura. Son receptores y algunos son autorreceptores. Tú tienes diferentes autorreceptores a los míos. Pero los receptores reciben las señales del entorno. Si corto esos receptores, la célula no tiene ninguna identidad, porque no le viene de dentro sino de fuera. Para explicarlo de forma gráfica, diría que el cuerpo es como un televisor: mis antenas captan y reproducen el programa televisivo de Bruce. Esos receptores recogen esa transmisión. Si estoy viendo la tele y se estropea el tubo de la imagen, ha muerto el televisor, pero sigue la transmisión. Si ese ser tiene los mismos receptores que tienes tú, volverás a estar trasmitiendo lo mismo, pero en otro cuerpo. Esto explica la reencarnación y quiere decir que el cuerpo puede ir y venir, pero la transmisión siempre está ahí.
¿Eso le hizo creer que tenemos espíritu?Nunca había creído en el espíritu, pero cuando comprobé esto en la célula, me cambió la vida entera. La pregunta que me planteé es: ¿por qué esa duplicidad?, ¿por qué tener un espíritu y un cuerpo? Y la respuesta vino de mis células: si solo existiera el espíritu, ¿a qué sabe el chocolate? Solo con la parte espiritual, ¿cómo vivir una puesta de sol? ¿Qué se siente cuando se está enamorado? Todas esas sensaciones vienen de las células del cuerpo, que puede oler, sentir, tener experiencias. Recoge todo eso, lo transmite al cerebro. Se convierte en vibraciones y lo transmite a la fuente del ser. Si se muere mi cuerpo, mi fuente de ser y mi espíritu tienen la memoria hasta que tenga otro cuerpo. La lección más importante es que estar vivo es un regalo, una alegría por todo lo que podemos sentir. Cuando hagamos eso, todo el mundo estará sano.

Cuando recibas esta carta ya te habrás enterado por la radio de la noticia de mi muerte. Ya me habré suicidado —¡al fin!— sin que nadie pudiera impedírmelo, como me lo impidieron tú y Agustín Alles el 21 de enero de 1965.
Sé que después de muerto llevarán sobre mi tumba montañas de inculpaciones. Que querrán presentarme como «el único culpable» de la desgracia de Cuba. Y no niego mis errores ni mi culpabilidad; lo que sí niego es que fuera «el único culpable».
Culpables fuimos todos, en mayor o menor grado de responsabilidad.
Culpables fuimos todos. Los periodistas que llenaban mi mesa de artículos demoledores, arremetiendo contra todos los gobernantes. Buscadores de aplausos que, por satisfacer el morbo infecundo y brutal de la multitud, por sentirse halagados por la aprobación de la plebe. vestían el odioso uniforme que no se quitaban nunca. No importa quien fuera el presidente. Ni las cosas buenas que estuviese realizando a favor de Cuba. Había que atacarlos, y había que destruirlos. El mismo pueblo que los elegía, pedía a gritos sus cabezas en la plaza pública. El pueblo también fue culpable. El pueblo que quería a Guiteras. El pueblo que quería a Chibás. El pueblo que aplaudía a Pardo Llada. El pueblo que compraba Bohemia, porque Bohemia era vocero de ese pueblo. El pueblo que acompañó a Fidel desde Oriente hasta el campamento de Columbia.
Fidel no es más que el resultado del estallido de la demagogia y de la insensatez. Todos contribuimos a crearlo. Y todos, por resentidos, por demagogos, por estúpidos o por malvados, somos culpables de que llegara al poder. Los periodistas que conociendo la hoja de Fidel, su participación en el Bogotazo Comunista, el asesinato de Manolo Castro y su conducta gansteril en la Universidad de la Habana, pedíamos una amnistía para él y sus cómplices en el asalto al Cuartel Moncada, cuando se encontraba en prisión.
Fue culpable el Congreso que aprobó la Ley de Amnistía. Los comentaristas de radio y televisión que la colmaron de elogios. Y la chusma que la aplaudió delirantemente en las graderías del Congreso de la República.
Bohemia no era más que un eco de la calle. Aquella calle contaminada por el odio que aplaudió a Bohemia cuando inventó «los veinte mil muertos». Invención diabólica del dipsómano Enriquito de la Osa, que sabía que Bohemia era un eco de la calle, pero que también la calle se hacía eco de lo que publicaba Bohemia.
Fueron culpables los millonarios que llenaron de dinero a Fidel para que derribara al régimen. Los miles de traidores que se vendieron al barbudo criminal. Y los que se ocuparon más del contrabando y del robo que de las acciones de la Sierra Maestra. Fueron culpables los curas de sotanas rojas que mandaban a los jóvenes para la Sierra a servir a Castro y sus guerrilleros. Y el clero, oficialmente, que respaldaba a la revolución comunista con aquellas pastorales encendidas, conminando al Gobierno a entregar el poder.
Fue culpable Estados Unidos de América, que incautó las armas destinadas a las fuerzas armadas de Cuba en su lucha contra los guerrilleros.
Y fue culpable el State Department, que respaldó la conjura internacional dirigida por los comunistas para adueñarse de Cuba.
Fueron culpables el Gobierno y su oposición, cuando el diálogo cívico, por no ceder y llegar a un acuerdo decoroso, pacífico y patriótico. Los infiltrados por Fidel en aquella gestión para sabotearla y hacerla fracasar como lo hicieron.
Fueron culpables los políticos abstencionistas, que cerraron las puertas a todos los cambios electoralistas. Y los periódicos que como Bohemia, le hicieron el juego a los abstencionistas, negándose a publicar nada relacionado con aquellas elecciones.
Todos fuimos culpables. Todos. Por acción u omisión. Viejos y jóvenes. Ricos y pobres. Blancos y negros. Honrados y ladrones. Virtuosos y pecadores. Claro, que nos faltaba por aprender la lección increíble y amarga: que los más «virtuosos» y los más «honrados» eran los pobres.
Muero asqueado. Solo. Proscrito. Desterrado. Y traicionado y abandonado por amigos a quienes brindé generosamente mi apoyo moral y económico en días muy difíciles. Como Rómulo Betancourt, Figueres, Muñoz Marín. Los titanes de esa «Izquierda Democrática» que tan poco tiene de «democrática» y tanto de «izquierda». Todos deshumanizados y fríos me abandonaron en la caída. Cuando se convencieron de que yo era anticomunista, me demostraron que ellos eran antiquevedistas. Son los presuntos fundadores del Tercer Mundo. El mundo de Mao Tse Tung.
Ojalá mi muerte sea fecunda. Y obligue a la meditación. Para que los que pueden aprendan la lección. Y los periódicos y los periodistas no vuelvan a decir jamás lo que las turbas incultas y desenfrenadas quieran que ellos digan. Para que la prensa no sea más un eco de la calle, sino un faro de orientación para esa propia calle. Para que los millonarios no den más sus dineros a quienes después los despojan de todo. Para que los anunciantes no llenen de poderío con sus anuncios a publicaciones tendenciosas, sembradoras de odio y de infamia, capaces de destruir hasta la integridad física y moral de una nación, o de un destierro. Y para que el pueblo recapacite y repudie esos voceros de odio, cuyas frutas hemos visto que no podían ser más amargas.
Fuimos un pueblo cegado por el odio. Y todos éramos víctimas de esa ceguera. Nuestros pecados pesaron más que nuestras virtudes. Nos olvidamos de Nuñez de Arce cuando dijo:
Adiós. Éste es mi último adiós. Y dile a todos mis compatriotas que yo perdono con los brazos en cruz sobre mi pecho, para que me perdonen todo el mal que he hecho.

The Keystone XL Pipeline and the Truth

The proposed construction of the Keystone XL pipeline has long been
polarized on a number of issues. Hysteria abounds, with junk science
everywhere we look -- driven in no small measure by the desire to
shut down development of northern Alberta's oil sands via constraining
Canadian oil export markets, as well as some apparent anti-Americanism.
In early 2012, there was a Huffington Post online debate over the Keystone
XL pros and cons between environmental activist Bill McKibben and
Canadian conservative and media personality Ezra Levant. McKibben
-- obviously in the 'con' position -- made some ridiculously incorrect
statements:
"[l]et's start in Alberta and move our way down the continent, around the
globe, and out into the atmosphere ... Because this low-grade oil won't flow
out of the ground, oil companies have to mine it, creating an enormous
scar. Though they've only gotten three percent of the oil so far, the toxic
tailing ponds are already the largest on earth, holding more liquid than the
reservoir behind China's Three Gorges Dam."
According to the Pembina Institute (an environmental advocacy
organization not expected to bias data in favor of oil sands
development), "[t]he ERCB [Energy Resources Conservation Board of
Alberta] reports that current tailings volumes on the landscape total 720
million cubic meters. Calculations by the Pembina Institute and Water
Matters, based on the company submissions, suggest that the volume of
tailings will grow from 843 million cubic meters in 2010 to over 1.1 billion
cubic meters in 2020, an increase of 30%. The volume of tailings will still be
over 1.1 billion cubic meters in 2065."
By comparison, the reservoir behind China's Three Gorges Dam contains
39.3 cubic kilometers of water, or 39.3 billion cubic meters, in comparison
to the <1 billion cubic meters of tailings that appear to be present at the
northern Alberta oil sands development. Perhaps McKibben needs to better
explain how he arrived at his interesting conclusion? The data I have does
not indicate the tailings ponds hold "more liquid than the reservoir behind
China's Three Gorges Dam," rather it suggests they are less than 2% of the
Three Gorges Dam volume.
Of course, there is also some anti-American absurdity. Vivian Krause --
a Canadian independent blogger working to expose the funding sources
behind various environmental groups -- came up with the following
quackery in her attempts to make the link that "[c]harities are helping the
U.S. keep Canada over a barrel." The point of Krause's article appears to
be that some American charities that are active in Canada are selectively
pipelines that would help carry Canada's oil production to nonAmerican export markets. Krause makes the following statement:
"Tides USA is a co-founder of the Rockefeller Brothers Tar Sands
Campaign, whose first goal is to stop or limit pipelines and refinery
expansions. But of all the hundreds of pipelines in North America, the
only pipelines that the Rockefellers single out in their multi-million-dollar
campaign are the Mackenzie pipeline and the Enbridge Northern Gateway
-- pipelines that would export Canadian energy. The Rockefeller Brothers
also seek to ban oil tanker traffic, but again, they only oppose oil tankers on
the strategic coast of British Columbia and in the far north -- those exportbound to Asia."
On her website, Krause provides a copy of a presentation apparently given
by the Rockefeller Brothers Foundation (RBF) from 2008 entitled "The
Tar Sands Campaign." In this document, it appears the RBF specifically
mentions the Keystone XL pipeline (which would ship Canadian oil to the
U.S.), the Enbridge Northern Gateway pipeline (which would ship Canadian
oil primarily overseas to Asia, although the pipeline would allow exports
by sea to the U.S. if desired/economical), and the Mackenzie Valley
pipeline (which would ship Canadian natural gas to the U.S., as well as into
Canadian markets), and on page 40 of the RBF presentation, it appears
that "Strategic Track 1" is to stop/limit pipelines and refinery expansions
that would either bring Canadian oil from the "tar sands" into the U.S.
and/or provide opportunities to refine Canadian "tar sands" oil in the U.S.
(screen capture of this RBF slide shown below).
On the website of the Rockefeller Family Fund (a closely related fund with
the RBF), they proudly proclaim support for opposition to the Keystone XL
pipeline:
"In a decisive action that kills the proposed 1700-mile TransCanada
pipeline for now, President Obama has sided with the voices of climate
advocates led by RFF grantee, 350.org and its leader, Bill McKibben.
Against great political odds and the deep-pocketed backing of the oil
industry, the decision marks a spectacular victory for climate progress and
a new energy economy."
The Heritage Foundation makes the following statement about the 2008
RBF presentation regarding RBF's opposition to Keystone XL:
"Details of a large non-profit's plans to combat the Keystone XL pipeline
have surfaced, and offer some insight into the strategies and tactics
of groups looking to combat the use of fossil fuels. Canadian news
channel Sun News uncovered of a [sic] PowerPoint presentation from the
Rockefeller Brothers Fund detailing its work with other groups to derail
the Keystone XL pipeline and other similar projects it deemed parts of 'a
globally significant threat.' The presentation, written in 2008, describes the
allocation of $7 million to environmental non-profits for tactics that include
the use of the legislative and legal systems to delay or derail energy
production in the United States and Canada, and to 'raise the costs' of
energy in both nations."
We also find the following statement on U.S. Congressman Tom
Tancredo's website regarding RBF's opposition to Keystone XL:
"A PowerPoint presentation obtained by The Daily Caller shows that during
a July 2008 meeting, the $789 million Rockefeller Brothers Fund proposed
to coordinate and fund a dozen environmental and anti-corporate activist
groups' efforts to scuttle pipelines carrying tar sands oil from Canada to
the United States. The most recent incarnation of that pipeline plan, the
Keystone XL project, was the subject of intense public controversy until the
Obama administration rejected it in January."
So, we appear left with the basic question -- what is Krause talking about?
Based on the information available, it appears that the RBF opposes
Canadian oil exports to the U.S. as much as it opposes Canadian oil
exports to China. So how is this part of some master plan to "let the U.S.
keep Canada over a barrel"? Unless there is information we are collectively
missing, it sounds like a misguided theory.
Keystone XL -- and, by extension, the public -- is caught in the cross-hairs
of competing groups with various agendas. Some anti-American currents
run strong in Canada, and these activists would prefer that Canada
separate its economy from that of its southern neighbor. Asian interests -
- notably China -- would like Canada to export its oil to them rather than
the USA, making for likely opponents to Keystone XL. Middle Eastern and
other oil-producing states would like Canada's oil exports limited in order
to reduce global competition. Various environmentalists oppose further
fossil fuels development. In the media battle space over this pipeline, it has
become almost impossible for the public to get to the truth.

O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
